OpenAI valued at $500B?

🚨 Our Report

News has just broken that OpenAI is reportedly in talks with investors about a potential share sale, with a current company valuation of $500B.

🔓 Key Points

  • The $500B valuation marks a significant increase: Just four months ago, after announcing a $40B funding round (the largest amount ever raised by a private tech company), it was valued at $300B.

  • According to insiders, Thrive Capital—one of OpenAI’s previous investors—could lead the round, and because OpenAI isn’t listed on the stock market, a secondary stock sale would allow current and ex-staff to sell their shares.

  • This follows news from last week that OpenAI had already secured $8.3B from a syndicate of investors—as part of the $40B fundraise—which completed ahead of schedule and was five times oversubscribed.

🔐 Relevance

This comes after reports revealed that OpenAI expects its ARR (the expected revenue from subscriptions) to reach $20B by the end of this year (it’s already reached $12B as ChatGPT business users recently reached 5M), and it just launched two new, freely available, open-source AI models to support President Trump’s mission and to compete with ‘open-source’ rivals like Meta and DeepSeek (more on this below). And it also highlights investors' continued strong appetite for AI firms, especially OpenAI, which is still seen as a major frontrunner in innovation.

Is OpenAI’s $500B valuation justified—or are investors caught in AI hype?

How this hospital saved $750,000 in 4 weeks using AI

  • This hospital was grappling with emergency department overcapacity due to inefficient patient discharge planning, causing delays in care access.

  • It implemented “The Adelaide Score”, a predictive AI system which forecasted which patients would be ready for discharge.

  • The system used routinely collected hospital data to generate alerts for clinical staff to prepare discharges proactively.

  • As a result, it reduced patient length of stay by 6.5%, saw a 2.1% decrease in patient readmissions, and saved $750,000 over 4 weeks.

Googling a name can reveal more than expected

Data brokers sell personal info—often for less than a dollar.

What’s publicly available:

  • Current & past addresses

  • Mobile numbers (even outdated ones)

  • Family connections

  • Employment history

  • Property records

  • Court documents

This information is bundled and sold to anyone willing to pay. Even ChatGPT can return surprising details when asked about someone with an online presence.

This isn’t paranoia—it’s probability:

  • 1 in 4 Americans experience identity theft

  • $1,100 average loss per incident

  • Over 200 hours to recover

Manually opting out of data brokers is exhausting—195+ forms, 30+ hours, and records often reappear.

Incogni automates the process:

Contacts data brokers

Forces data deletion

Monitors & re-removes data

  • OpenAI has launched two ‘open’ AI reasoning models—a small one (gpt-oss-20b), which can run on a laptop, and a larger, more capable one (gpt-oss-120b). Both have similar capabilities to the o-series.

  • This comes after CEO, Sam Altman, said OpenAI was “on the wrong side of history” when it came to open-sourcing its tech, as it faces pressure from the likes of “open-source” DeepSeek and Meta.

  • It also follows President Trump's call for US AI developers to develop more open-source technology to encourage global adoption of US AI technologies that are based on democratic values.

  • Trump has announced that he will be introducing separate tariffs for AI chips and semiconductors “within the next week or so” as he wants them to be “made in the United States.”

  • Although Trump didn’t reveal the tariff rates, the US has already spent $50B (via the CHIPS-Act) to bring AI chip manufacturing back to the US, but most chip production still takes place in Taiwan, South Korea, and China.

  • This announcement comes as the industry nervously awaits Trump’s decision on AI chip export restrictions, after he rescinded Biden’s export rules—which were country-specific and based on security concerns–in May.
