The Nasdaq closed nearly unchanged as gains in companies like Tesla were offset by declines in NVIDIA, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, following a hotter-than-expected inflation report that raised concerns about future interest rate cuts.

π² OpenAI cancels o3 release?

π¨ Our Report β As part of a post on the social media platform, X, declaring "we want to do a better job of sharing our intended roadmap, and a much better job at simplifying our product offerings," OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, confirmed that OpenAI will not be releasing the highly anticipated reasoning modelβo3β(first teased in December, with a mini version released just last month) as a standalone model, as expected, but will instead be shipping GPT-4.5 and GPT-5 in the coming weeks and months.
π Key Points:
GPT-4.5 (codenamed ββOrionβ) will be OpenAIβs "last non-chain-of-thought model" which will be released in βweeks,β and GPT-5 will βintegrate a lot of [OpenAIβs] technology,β including o3, and will be out in βmonthsβ.
Alongside o3βs reasoning capabilities, GPT-5 will also include Voice Mode, Canvas, Search, and Deep Research to βunify o-series and GPT-series modelsβ and create systems that are βuseful for a wide range of tasks."
Altman confirmed that GPT-5 with a βstandard level of intelligenceβ will be available to all users, but Plus subscribers will get βa higher level of intelligenceβ and Pro, βan even higher level of intelligence.β
π Relevance β This announcement reveals a U-turn in OpenAIβs strategy: Previously they were asking users for $200 p/m for certain featuresβalienating many in the processβbut now, they seem intent on making their products as accessible, user-friendly, and easy-to-use as possible, having realized βhow complicatedβ their offerings have gotten, which could be a retaliation to DeepSeekβs explosive entry into the market with their reasoning model R1βwhich costs nothing to use, and was made for a fraction of the cost of OpenAIβs modelsβwhich has thrown many big tech strategies into question, not just OpenAIβs.
Is OpenAIβs change in strategy to help users or to claw back market share after DeepSeek?

π€ Apple secretly building robots?

π¨ Our Report β According to long-time Apple analystβMing-Chi KuoβApple is building up its robotics department to "explore both humanoid and non-humanoid robotsβ, which are reportedly already at the proof-of-concept (POC) stage.
π Key Points:
Kuo believes that the mass production of these robots is unlikely to start before 2028 (if at all, as many products in Appleβs βtesting groundββlike the Apple Carβdonβt progress beyond the POC stage).
This aligns with recent βrobotics' job listings, and reports that a secret βHome Labs hardwareβ and an βAI special projectsβ team are using findings from the Apple car to build tabletop robots and "home robotics devices.β
Kuoβs findings also suggest that βApple cares about how users build perception with robots,β implying they may use βsensing hardwareβ that detects and measures changes in the environment, like temperature or light.
π Relevance β If these reports are true, Apple is likely to face difficulties with hiring engineers quick enough to support the scale of productionβas they did when developing the Apple carβan issue that many other robotics firms are currently struggling with.

βοΈ Musk to withdraw OpenAI bid, ifβ¦
Musk offered to buy OpenAI for $97.4B earlier this week (which was swiftly rejected by CEO, Sam Altman), a calculated move that was designed to slow OpenAIβs transition into a for-profit company.
In the latest update, Musk has reportedly said heβll withdraw his bid if OpenAI agrees to drop its plans to become a for-profit entity and is βprepared to preserve the charity's missionβ (to develop AI for the benefit of mankind).
If they donβt, court filings state that "the charity must be compensated by what an arms-length buyer will pay for its assets" (which is referring to Musk's βserious offerβ) to βfurther the charityβs mission.β
