Our Report: Elon Musk has introduced Grok, his own version of an AI chatbot with the objective of "understanding the universe”. This is the same objective as the supercomputer from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (heads up, the answer is 42).
🔑 Key Points:
Musk, who has previously voiced concerns about AI as a threat to humanity, announced that Grok would be available for premium subscribers on the X platform after its testing phase, and has real-time access to content published on X.
An example shared by Musk highlighted Grok’s humor with a mock "step-by-step" guide to producing cocaine, ending with a warning against the action (it seems like a more playful and less inhibited version of ChatGPT).
xAI’s staff credits The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy as the inspiration behind Grok's design, aiming to answer questions with humor and a touch of rebellion (don’t try asking it about the answer to life, the universe, and everything).
Grok is built on Grok-1, an LLM that has outperformed GPT-3.5 in certain aspects (middle school math problems), though it still trails behind the capabilities of GPT-4. You can grab your early access to the model here.
