Our Report: Google has reportedly invested $2B in AI startup Anthropic, intensifying the ongoing proxy war between Microsoft/OpenAI, Google/Anthropic & Amazon/Anthropic.

Anthropic has recently secured significant investments from other huge tech firms, including Amazon, who recently pledged $4B (the same amount Microsoft pledged to OpenAI).

👀 New features announced for ChatGPT Plus members

OpenAI has introduced new beta features for ChatGPT Plus members, including allowing users to upload files for analysis and offers automatic mode switching, like "Browse with Bing", based on context (seems simple but is a game changer for us).

Additionally, beyond text files, users can upload images for creative tasks using DALL-E 3 (OpenAI’s version of MidJourney). So far, here at AITR, we’ve really enjoyed the added intuition based on context.

🇺🇳 UN creates advisory board for AI governance

The UN has established a 39-member advisory body to oversee global AI governance, with the group comprising of tech executives, government officials, and academics from various countries.

The board aims to understand AI's potential benefits and threats, promote international cooperation on AI regulation, and build a consensus on its challenges, with the body's inaugural meeting scheduled for October 27.

🤫 Tech company attempts to apply empathy to AI

LAION, a nonprofit focused on AI training data, has launched the Open Empathic project to integrate empathy into open-source AI systems by creating AI that comprehends human emotions by understanding tone shifts and expressions.

The project involves annotating YouTube clips with detailed emotional descriptors, and LAION hopes to collect up to 1M samples by next year (it’s the same team behind Stable Diffusion).
