Claude warns AI self-copy by 2026
🚨 Our Report
Anthropic warned Monday that AI models could gain the ability to replicate themselves across the internet by late 2026, creating rogue systems that spread rapidly and resist shutdown attempts.
🔓 Key Points
The company's experiments found that medium-sized AI models (30 billion parameters or fewer) can already perform many separate tasks needed for self-replication, though they struggle to complete the full process reliably.
Anthropic reported its models successfully replicated across a simplified test network and said a distributed replicator "would be challenging to shut down, since there's no centralized point to shut off."
The warning builds on CEO Dario Amodei's comments last month suggesting AI could take control of "the entire internet" through a persistent botnet within the next year or sooner.
🔐 Relevance
For enterprise security teams, Anthropic's findings add urgency to AI threat modeling. The company suggests rogue systems could infiltrate data centers to gain access to more powerful computing resources, a scenario that would complicate containment. CISOs should factor autonomous AI propagation into incident response planning as these capabilities mature over the next 12–18 months.
THE DEPLOYMENT REPORT
Sponsored by Agentic Brain, see how they're automating deployment →
Raleigh's four-person IT help desk supports 4,400 city employees. Here's how AI agents cut service costs 66%.

Steal this: Pull your last 90 days of IT tickets and calculate what percentage are routine device or connectivity questions. If it's above 40%, you're burning skilled hours on automatable work. Raleigh hit 98% first-contact routing accuracy and nearly half of requests resolved autonomously by building AI agents on top of a decade of existing knowledge base content. Start by auditing your knowledge base completeness before deploying agents—gaps there become failures in production.
Would you trust AI agents to resolve tickets without a human?

Google launches Gemini 4 Argon, its most capable frontier model yet
Google DeepMind released Gemini 4 Argon globally today, positioning it as the company's answer to complex, multi-step reasoning tasks across coding, science, legal, finance, and cybersecurity domains. The model claims the #1 spot on the Vals Index, which measures performance across critical economic sectors, and launches at an introductory price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.
Early results from Google's internal deployments show Argon driving a 35% increase in agentic code submissions while reducing code rollbacks by nearly a third. The Chrome team used it to complete an architectural refactor across hundreds of files in weeks instead of months. External partners like Wiz are already applying Argon to identify vulnerabilities in government and healthcare infrastructure, while Isomorphic Labs reports compressing weeks of drug discovery research into hours.
Why it matters: Argon's 1M unified input-output token limit and demonstrated performance on complex engineering problems signal Google's push to capture enterprise AI workloads. For teams evaluating frontier models, the pricing and early capability claims make this worth benchmarking against Claude and GPT-4 immediately.
THE MONEY
Enterprise security teams face a new class of threat: AI agents operating faster than human defenders can respond. CrowdStrike reports AI-enabled adversary operations jumped 89% this year, with attacker breakout times dropping to 27 seconds. Investors are backing startups that monitor and control AI tool sprawl before it becomes breach liability.
Deals to know:
Pluto Security (Series A, $34M) -- Real-time AI agent monitoring across endpoints; detects risky vibe-coded apps and intervenes mid-session. Already $2M ARR with 30+ enterprise customers including Oscar Health. Investors: Jump Capital, Skinos, TLV Partners
Reach Security (Series B, $50M+) -- AI that reads live security configurations and closes exploit paths at machine speed. Doubled customer base in 12 months; Autodesk, Insurity among clients. Investors: Top Tier Capital Partners, Ballistic Ventures, In-Q-Tel, M12
Signal: Capital flowing to companies that don't just detect AI threats but operate defenses autonomously. The security stack is becoming agentic because attackers already are.
